Cool Cars: Lost & Found, The Original Bullitt Mustang

During the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, Ford revealed the new 2019 Bullitt Edition of the Mustang GT. This was expected and not much of a surprise. However, what was a surprise is that it was accompanied by the long-missing 1968 Mustang used in the filming of the movie Bullitt staring Steve McQueen. As Road & Track put it “That’s a little bit like the Loch Ness monster showing up at an Olympic swim meet.”

There were two cars used in the film. A couple of years ago the stunt car was discovered in Mexico. The location of this car, the “hero” car, which was driven by McQueen himself has been a mystery for years. The Ford Motor Company and current owner Sean Keirnan managed to keep a very big secret before the car was once again revealed to the world at the Detroit Auto Show.

I won’t go into all the details here, but both Hagerty and Road & Track have some excellent articles on the car. They can be found here…
